Senior Operational Risk Officer Standard Chartered Job in Karachi
Job Description
To control the level of operational risk exposure that results from business activities, ensuring that: 1. View of gross risks remains current and updated via thematic reviews conducted from time to time 2. There is sufficient traction in actions agreed at governance forums to mitigate significant exposures 3. Control environment is effective in reducing operational risk exposures to acceptable levels of residual risk, commensurate with risk appetite. 4. Observed operational risk outcomes are used to challenge the comprehensiveness of risk identification and the effectiveness of the control environment.
To perform ongoing reviews (thematic and regular) to: 1. identify process / control weaknesses and 2. work with the business units to ensure mitigation actions are agreed
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Work with Business / function units and Process Re-engineering/ Development unit to ensure that actions associated with mitigating significant exposures is effectively executed 2. Review new or amendments to Group policy and procedures and agree action plans with business units for effective documentation and adherence 3. Review Product Approval Documents to ensure Operational risks and control requirements are well documented 4. Review critical process documents to ensure controls are adequate to mitigate significant risks 5. Periodically review “CSTs/health checklists” of business units to ensure they are relevant and learnings from other units / countries are factored in 6. Analyse significant or recurring loss events and partner business to implement mitigating actions as required 7. Work with business units to prepare for Internal / External Audits, if any 8. Provide guidance to UORMs and facilitate establishment of Operational risk agenda, to ensure UORMs efforts are focussed in the right areas. 9. Participate in Regional UORM meetings to derive maximum value from the initiative
Qualifications & Skills
Relevant business/function experience •Operational risk management experience •A clear understanding of the Bank’s approach to the management of operational risk, or equivalent experience gained in other organizations; Preferred: a good understanding of the Bank’s OR Framework •Ability to work in a matrix organization, leveraging resources across the organization to complete deliverables •The sound judgment and courage necessary to perform a risk and control role and maintain effective working relationships; ability to balance the need for challenge as well as partner with the business Skills: Integrity, Analytical skills, Communication skills, Rigour, Structured approach, Team Player, Excellent Stakeholder Management
