About
Streamers are narrow rapidly growing channels, which arise when high voltage is applied to a non conducting medium like air. They form the early stages of breakdown of all sizes.
Knowledge of streamer discharge propagation is important for the ongoing research on alternative gases of SF6 worldwide. With the gradual application of gas-insulated transmission lines (GIL) with SF6 or SF6/N2 gas mixtures as an insulating medium in HV engineering, it is of great significance to understand the streamer discharge phenomena and breakdown mechanisms of such insulating gases.
Since streamers are also used in industry a better understanding of the phenomena is desirable.
To study the effects of breakdown of gases in high voltage equipments high voltage discharge chamber is assembled and optical parameters are studied.
