Description

I am Rana Aftab, a retired Associated Engineer from Descon, and I am here to offer you my expertise as a Consultant Engineer. With a specialization in lead engineering and an illustrious career managing maintenance projects, I am ready to bring a touch of excellence to your organization.

Throughout my tenure, I spearheaded various critical tasks in shutdown projects, ensuring the smooth functioning of oil refineries in the UAE. As the Lead Engineer Workshop, I meticulously studied the scope of work for valve maintenance, including pressure safety valves, control valves, non-return valves, gate valves, globe valves, and strainers of various sizes and shapes. I also took charge of the machine shop and fabrication shop, overseeing all maintenance jobs, as well as testing newly installed and overhauled valves.

To streamline operations, I set up a dedicated workplace in close proximity to the central ADNOC Main Workshop. There, I supervised the transfer of spare parts and consumables reserved for maintenance, optimizing efficiency during shutdown periods. During plant shutdowns, I managed the seamless relocation of valves from the site to the workshop, commencing maintenance operations while prioritizing safety and quality. Each valve underwent hydro testing and verification by trusted third-party inspectors. Once maintenance and testing were completed, the valves were returned to the site, freshly painted, and accompanied by a comprehensive test certificate.

In addition to valve management, I utilized my expertise to fabricate new strainers for the croy and cooling water circuits, ensuring optimal performance. Notably, I also handled the testing of cryogenic exchangers and performed the de-spading of the south battery limits, guaranteeing the smooth operation of critical equipment.

As an Area Engineer, I took charge of all pre-shutdown activities and closely coordinated with clients to understand their needs. I conducted field verifications, devised rigging studies for different jobs, and skillfully managed maintenance and overhaul operations, including the cleaning and maintenance of heat exchangers, hydro drilling, chemical cleaning, and nitrogen testing. I supervised the entire process for propane condensers, suction drums, MCR suction drums, surface condensers, and cold box cleaning and inspection. I also ensured the thorough inspection and cement lining repair of underground cooling water lines, ensuring reliable infrastructure for your operations.

During the warranty period, I assumed the role of Night Shift In-Charge and oversaw the replacement of sulphur condenser tubes. I expertly handled the removal of old tubes, insertion of new tubes, tube expansion, welding, hydro testing, and final inspection of condensers. I meticulously ensured that all activities complied with the highest standards of quality and safety.

As a testament to my knowledge and competence, I have qualified in the Permit to Work system examination as an originator and acceptor. This certification underscores my commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and adhering to industry best practices.

Now, as your Consultant Engineer, I bring all of this expertise and more to the table. With my creative problem-solving skills, meticulous attention to detail, and dedication to excellence, I am confident that I can provide valuable insights, innovative solutions, and streamlined strategies to enhance your operations.
