Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to apply for a Legal Associate or an Anchor position at Hum News office in Islamabad. After graduating with an experiential degree in Sharia and Law in Pakistan, I worked in Pakistan’s parliament, as well as a journalist, and pursued an LL.M. degree from Berkeley Law with a Certificate of Specialization in Business Law. The experiential nature of my first degree made me worked at Pakistan’s parliament in the development of business-related legislation through legal research and assisted in drafting bill amendments. I also tapped into my legal expertise to continue my activism and journalistic pursuits, from interviewing wanted insurgents for Fox News to highlighting subjects like LGBT rights, HIV and the criminalization of homosexuality through The Guardian. Armed with these experiences, I founded a start-up that is developing the concept of digital courts to provide affordable law advisory services to reduce manual processing and dependence on lawyers. Specifically, I led a team of 10 tech specialists and legal experts to develop a unique mobile software application in International Islamic University’s Incubation Center. I’m currently working with the New Business Community Law Clinic (NBCLC) at Berkeley Law to assist companies, non-profits, and young entrepreneurs to make them comply with the California state regulations and other US laws. Also drafting their legal documents, including Website Privacy Policy, and employment contract in a timely fashion has trained me to work in a legal competitive environment. Through the opportunity of interviewing clients, I have honed my basic business skills, which I effectively use to provide consultation to international business clients. At Berkeley, courses like Corporate Finance have helped me understand the nuances of corporate finance and governance and studying Mergers & Acquisitions has prepared me for legal due diligence and deal structuring for international loans and corporate acquisitions and mergers in a multi-jurisdictional environment. I believe the combination of my academic and professional experience would make me an excellent fit for Hum News.
