As a professional I approached to all patients, staff and visitors. I worked within my level of experience and competence and highlighted verbally and in writing to the nurse in charge when they were being asked to work outside the level of their competences. I provided medical cover, routine and emergency, during hours of my duty and worked in conjunction with the other doctors to provide a 24 hour service to the hospital. I assessed urgent admissions when required and the relevant consultant was not immediately available. I undertook a morning and evening ward round daily and when was possible with a member of the nursing staff available ensuring patients were also visited where appropriated. I made an entry in the patient’s notes as appropriated following ward rounds and other patient examinations, communication and procedures. I received a hand-over report on patients from the alternative doctor when commenced my duty and attended the ward areas both morning and evening to enable and establish consultant communication. I spent time in theatre, observing procedures when agreed by the Consultant and Ward Manager. I was available during my duty time to return to the ward and departments when was required.
